A Great First Meeting

My parents arrived to Prague this Thursday with 6 of their friends to see me, take a tour in the city, drink beer and eat great Czech food. Me and Kristýna planned to take them all to something more than just city sightseeing and could, with much and appreciated help from her mother, plan a trip to Hrád Karlstejn during the Saturday.
However, first I booked a table for 10 at Ambiente, an amazing Brazilian live restaurant, close to the Old Town Square. I strongly recommend anyone having parents or friends over that want to have a food experience to go there if a restaurant in the more exclusive range is to be preferred.

During Sunday we spent the whole noon walking the Czech nature at Prachovske Skaly with my parents, as the friends already left. It was a nice walk with amazing forests and rock formations not too long outside of Prague.
It felt great to work off the heavy food and beer from Ambiente and other smaller pubs.
However, when we went back to Prague we didn't have much time to rest before we were supposed to meet up with part of Kristýnas family for more food and beer.
This time we went for regular Czech cousin specialities - probably the best I've had so far here.

The weekend was great and it was very nice to see my parents, their friends and to see that they got very well along with Kristýnas family.

I believe that another week of hard work demands this kind of "rest"...

No manners

Right now, there's one thing I really miss from my time in the army; discipline.
You do not talk at the same time as someone with a higher rank than yourself - it's basic military manners.
I wish this could be applied in every day life as well.

Especially at Czech lessons...

Got tired from studying Histology so I needed something fun to do. Searched for some Latin and Czech exercises and found a lot of Czech tongue twisters.

Anatomy Test number 1

Should do some revision but to be honest I don’t feel like doing it. Just came home from Paymon’s place where we’ve been revising for a good hour and a half which feels great.

I hope, and believe, that we’ll be able to nail the test tomorrow since we’ve been revising so much and it feels like I know things thoroughly.
The first anatomy test basically covers the upper extremity divided into the hand, the forearm, the upper arm and the shoulder girdle. We have to know the names of the bones, the different parts of the bones as well as the joints. Furthermore we also need to know about the general anatomy of the bone and joint, such as how the bone develops, what it consists of and how the joints work.

The general anatomy of the bone is rather complex, these names won’t mean much to you but I’ll still namedrop the different subcategories.
Microanatomy of bone; bone classification, bone structure, bone tissue (osteocytes/clasts/blasts, chondrocytes), growth of bone (ossification and osteogenesis) nutrition of the bone, body planes, axis and medical orientation in 3D space as well as basic muscle, tendon and nerve attachment knowledge. It looks like a lot for one and a half week but once you grind it down into smaller parts it’s doable.
All together I’d estimate it to about a hundred terms, or even more – after all we’ll cover 64 bones out of the 208 in the human body.

Even if anatomy takes up a lot of my time right now I can’t forget about the other subjects; histology, biophysics and of course we have Czech. The Czech classes are really funny yet tough – Czech is a difficult language. Today we learned the numbers, yay(!)

Tomorrow night, after the test, I’ll mainly focus on histology, the other big subject during the first semester. It’s probably also the most interesting one – I’m like a little kid again while looking through the microscope, as if I explored my back yard garden. There’re so many things to see and discover in the microscope that you’ve only seen in the book. Of course anatomy is interesting, especially when it comes to physiology, but namedropping is rather monotonously.

Now I’m off to relax my head with some Call of Duty: MW2 and an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
